The signing of the Immigration Act of 1990 on November 29, 1990, made the H-1B visa a legal program. 41st President of the United States George H.W. Bush provided a lengthy statement at the signing ceremony:
Today I am pleased to sign S. 358, the “Immigration Act of 1990” — the most comprehensive reform of our immigration laws in 66 years. This Act recognizes the fundamental importance and historic contributions of immigrants to our country. S. 358 accomplishes what this Administration sought from the outset of the immigration reform process: a complementary blending of our tradition of family reunification with increased immigration of skilled individuals to meet our economic needs.

Throughout the past several months, migrant workers on the H-1B visa in the United States suffered layoffs, with several taking to social media or speaking to traditional media outlets to discuss the difficulty caused by the 60-day grace period for workers on the visa to find new employment.
Some debate surrounding the H-1B visa focuses on the visa not being necessary due to the United States having enough highly skilled individuals in the tech sector to fill open job opportunities. However, data overwhelmingly shows that isn’t the case.
The United States’ harsh stance on immigration, along with several additional factors, is causing the United States to become a less attractive destination for migrant workers. The recent firing of tens of thousands of workers on the H-1B visa will likely lead to the country becoming less popular with a skilled labor force needed to fill jobs within the tech industry.
According to a 2021 survey from the Boston Consulting Group (BCG), which surveyed 209,000 workers in 190 countries, Canada has become the most favored destination for foreign workers, knocking the United States into second place. While the survey was taken during the heart of a COVID-19 wave of cases within the US, it could be a precursor of increasing negative sentiments for workers looking to relocate to a new country. The 19th and 20th centuries saw the United States become a world leader in technological innovation thanks to individuals like Thomas Edison and Nikola Tesla despite the animosity between them. Alexander Graham Bell and Elisha Gray helped make leaps in telephony during the late 19th century. Later in the century, Dorothy Vaughn and Roy Clay Sr. made numerous innovations in computer science.
However, throughout the past few decades, experts feel the United States is falling behind other world leaders regarding innovation, with some fearing complete stagnation. Multiple academic studies show that enhanced levels of immigration lead to long-term economic growth for the area where immigrants concentrate. In 2010, Qatar was awarded the World Cup by Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA), the international governing body of association football -- responsible for the organization and promotion of the World Cup. In 2018, approximately 1.12 billion watched the 2018 World Cup Finals between Croatia and France, which was won by the latter. Estimates claim that 3.572 billion people watched the World Cup in 2018.
The World Cup is by far the world's most popular sporting event. However, the 2022 World Cup is not without controversy and a slew of labor violations -- which this article will focus on. The treatment of migrant workers from Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka has been a hot topic since Qatar began building World Cup stadiums after being awarded the tournament (commonly countries awarded with the World Cup already have this infrastructure in place). At Stop Now, we dedicate ourselves to fighting human injustice and fostering a better world for all. Our mission is to build and uphold the connections that will enlighten us. Through our shared stories, we can help foster a more compassionate world. Alongside other important projects, the halting of the H-1B visa program stands above the rest. Squarely aimed at our goals, we seek to end the system of cruelty and Labor Trafficking committed by large, and small, corporations in America.

A labor trafficking survivor, anti-trafficking spokesperson, and advocate for the survivors and sufferers of all human trafficking, Mr. D’Souza founds Eyes Open International and commits his voice to courage, hope and freedom for all the victims of this international injustice.
The ongoing existence of modern slavery – a clear and present evil – has eluded every simple solution and half-measure thus far. Everything tried before, if they were in earnest, failed, as wealth continued to grow. However, from where he sits, Mr. D’Souza offers his unrelenting determination to reach better possible futures – ones banishing the skeletons of human trafficking from the shadowy parts of our world, as they have in the past.
Racism in America – What We Know About It?
The term “Racism” has taken the world by storm. The recent incident of the cruel arrest of George Perry Floyd led to one of the biggest protests in history. But why did this single incident churned the hearts of millions? Well, the answer dates back to the colonial era. Yes, racism is an ancient evil that has taken the lives of thousand George Flyods, if not millions. Nowadays, we scroll our Facebook or Twitter feeds and see thousands of videos where innocent American civilians are subjected to this torture. But, what exactly is racism? Racism is an immoral practice or ostracism of people of color by the privileged white majority. This practice allowed the white Americans to enjoy legal and social sanctity while denying these rights and confining the people of color to slavery and oppression. Over the years, White European Americans who supported slavery tried to justify their disgraceful malpractices by giving hollow scientific theories about white supremacy and black inferiority. Our mission at Stop Now is to help people do meaningful work. That is more important than ever for businesses and experts and we want to do everything possible to help you maintain the continuity.
Stop Now is dedicated to the pursuit of fighting human injustices and fostering a better world for all. Our mission is to build connections between people through stories and foster a more compassionate world. Along with many other important projects aimed towards achieving this goal, we are currently invested in stopping H-1B visa status in the United States. Below we discuss our initiative and why we’re passionate about it.
Covid-19 workplace safety is on everyone’s mind who will have to re-enter the workforce eventually. For some, the term coronavirus was unfamiliar prior to the outbreak of COVID-19, and understanding what it means is beneficial to prevent the further spread of the disease. Essentially, the term coronavirus can define a large group of viruses separate from COVID-19 and there is a wide array of different types that can cause serious illness in animals and humans. Particular to COVID-19, symptoms have mainly been respiratory and similar to the common cold.
President Trump on June 22, 2020 ordered shut entry of guest workers in the United States at least till the end of this year. The order was part of White House’s larger scheme of cutting immigrant workforce in steps.
By enforcing the ban, President Trump was siding with Americans wanting to stop non-immigrant workers. Now he was a sort of holding a ‘Not Welcome’ placard for foreign job seekers. Anyway what he promises at rallies or campaigns does it in office. He has proven that on many occasions. The most affected by the ban would be those entering America on H1B visas. Indian IT workforce was likely to be hit badly. Indian job seekers would find them at the order’s receiving end. Around 70 percent of 85,000 H1B visas issued every year went to Indian IT workers. Whether H1B was good or bad for foreign job seekers was a matter of hard talk. These temporary job permits enabled workers to stay in America for three years which they could extend by another three years. After six years they needed to apply afresh. But foreigners working in the United States say President Trump halting guest workers programs was not so welcome move. |
